The R&D Masterclass is backed by a prominent professional services firm that provides technical consultancy advice to businesses engaged in research and development activities. The team steering this distinguished training program comprises technical experts with proficiency in aerospace, mechanical, chemical, and software engineering. Additionally, the team includes scientists from diverse backgrounds, along with experts in taxation, finance, and legal matters.
As governments worldwide compete to encourage their resident companies to invest in research and development by offering various incentives, tax breaks, and grants, an increased focus on an organisation’s capacity to attract these incentives, while also ensuring compliance in case of an audit, has revealed a gap in the capabilities of many organisations. The R&D Masterclass was formed to address this issue.
The format and methodology of the training modules have been modelled on the Frascati Methodology. The historical origins of this method date back to June 1963 when OECD experts convened with the NESTI group (National Experts on Science and Technology Indicators) at Villa Falconieri in Frascati, Italy. During this meeting, they drafted the initial version of the Frascati Manual, officially titled “The Proposed Standard Practice for Surveys of Research and Experimental Development.”
The definitions outlined in the Frascati Manual have been adopted by numerous governments and serve as a universal language for discussions concerning science and technology policy, as well as economic development policy. Originally established as an OECD standard, it has evolved into a recognised standard in R&D studies worldwide and is widely embraced by various organisations affiliated with the United Nations and the European Union. Over the last four decades, the NESTI group has produced a series of documents, collectively known as the “Frascati Family,” which includes manuals covering R&D (Frascati Manual), innovation (Oslo Manual), human resources (Canberra Manual), technology, balance of payments, and patents as indicators of science and technology.
The training modules and templates offered by the R&D Masterclass adhere to this OECD standard, presenting the world’s first and most innovative training program tailored for companies of all sizes to manage their R&D endeavours using best practice methodologies.
